About the application:

U.S. Unique Operations Command will host the 2019 Department of Defense (DoD) Fighter Mini games June 21-30 in Tampa Bay, Florida. Approximately 300 wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans will participate in the tournament. The athletes will represent the United States Troops, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Unique Operations Command. Athletes from the United Kingdom Armed Forces, Australian Defence Force, Canadian Armed Forces, Armed Forces of the Netherlands, and the Danish Armed Forces will also compete. Squads contain active military service members and veterans with upper-body, lower-body, and spinal cord injuries; traumatic brain injuries; visual impairment; serious illnesses; and post-traumatic stress. They will go head-to-head in 14 sports including, archery, cycling, time-trial cycling, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, track, field, wheelchair basketball, indoor rowing, powerlifting, and for the first time in Fighter Mini games history, golf, wheelchair tennis, and wheelchair rugby. The Fighter Mini games were established in 2010 as a method to enhance the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded fighters and to expose them to adaptive sports. Sponsored by the U.S. Olympic Committee in Colorado Springs, Colo., the inaugural Fighter Mini games hosted approximately 200 wounded, ill and injured service members. During the following years, the Fighter Mini games expanded in size and scope.
