About the application:

The first Chernobyl official mobile application with AR made to the 35th anniversary of the accident. The mobile application will acquaint players with the history of the Chernobyl accident, provide info about the current status of the Exclusion Place, will assist you to prepare for a trip and even let you to see Chernobyl from the couch. Today Chernobyl is one of the most exciting territories in the globe, attracting more than 100 thousand tourists in a year 80% of whom are foreigners. Chernobyl Exclusion Place is currently the principal historical monument, a center of scientific research, a put of inspiration for the artists. Still, even in USSR times, it was surrounded by fakes, hesitation, and manipulation. Over time, their amount is grooving, and it’s harder to search trustworthy info. That’s why before the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident, we decided to make a smooth and understandable mobile application that will collect all fact-based info in one put, provide info about the current status of the Exclusion Place, and assist you prepare for a trip and even let you to see Chernobyl from the couch. The application will be shared in gratis access in Ukrainian and English language, also it will be able to work in without internet access as a tutorial accompanying tourists to Chernobyl. Among exciting features of an apk which squad currently develop: - AR content with special activations and portals to various spots in Chernobyl; - authentic tours in exclusion place with audio-guide from witnesses of happenings; - map of radioactive pollution; - media gallery with archive materials and exclusive content; - the cultural legacy of Chernobyl, stories of the people, and current cultural happenings. Popularisation of info about the accident and involvement of fresh generations to talks about Chernobyl and its cultural result is one of the main tasks of the ARTEFACT project, which started this mobile application. “Chernobyl tragedy is connected to each Ukrainian family, but what Ukrainians know about it? 62% of Ukrainians don’t even know the date of the tragedy. Info about Chernobyl was always a secret, but today, when KGB files are published globe needs to know the truth. And we need to rethink this tragedy in our past, which we were not even allowed to talk about. With assist from Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Place Management, we wish to overcome existing info disaster by finding fresh sense in tragedy on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and its legacy: the Exclusion Place” – Valerii Korshunov, author of the ARTEFACT project. Application is developing by the experienced squad, which has apks for the project HeForShe Ukraine, UN Women, EASY PAY in their portfolio, and the previous year, they’ve made an apk which opened the portal to Chernobyl right from Burning Man festival! As project coordinator for Chernobyl mobile application Mariia Tintul said: “We trust that we can connect all functional and make a source which will let gratis access to the historical and cultural legacy of the Chernobyl tragedy theme and will make the right reputation for all the country by high-quality, secure tours to the Exclusion Place and acquaintance of the foreigners with history and art around such a phenomenon as Chernobyl.” The project is implemented with the help of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation with the assistance of the Ministry of Culture and Info Policy of Ukraine, State Agency of Ukraine on Exclusion Place Management, the Chernobyl National Museum, the Center Pripyat.com. and the European Institute of Chernobyl.
