Necronomicon is the ebook that never existed, or at least that is what I trust, even though more than a dozen of ebooks claims to be the original translation. You can search lots of websites discussing the Necronomicon especially in the satanistic and urban shamanistic corners of the Internet. The myth, that was brought forward by H. P. Lovecraft in his ebook History of the Necronomicon, which is generally considered pseudo-history, is about a ebook originally named Al Azif. The line between fact and fiction was further blurred in the late 1970s when a ebook purporting to be a translation of "the true" Necronomicon was published. This ebook, by the pseudonymous "Simon," had tiny connection to the fictional Lovecraft Mythos but instead was based on Sumerian mythology. It was later dubbed the "Simon Necronomicon". Going into trade paperback in 1980 it has never been out of print and has sold 800,000 copies by 2006 making it the most famous Necronomicon to date.[citation required] Despite its contents, the book's marketing focused heavily on the Lovecraft connection and created sensational claims for the book's magical power. The blurb states it was "potentially, the most risky Black Ebook known to the Western Globe". Three extra volumes have since been published — The Necronomicon Spellbook, a ebook of pathworkings with the 50 names of Marduk; Dead Names: The Dark History of the Necronomicon, a history of the ebook itself and of the late 1970s Fresh York occult stage; and The Gates Of The Necronomicon, instructions on pathworking with the Simon Necronomicon.
