Captain Hippocampus is going on acc and he’ll give no quarter! Unfortunately, he’s missing a few things: a ship and a squad, for instance! But there’s a solution: he can take his raft to the letter islands and recover the word treasure. This treasure will create him incredibly rich, mainly in knowledge and experience, so that he can rescue his squad from the grip of the sinister sea creature Analphabetus and buy himself a ship. Captain Hippocampus Learns to read is a mini game adapted to children learning to read and speak but learners of all ages can have fun it and have fun while learning intuitively and independently. Can learning to read be as simple and exciting as playing a computer mini game? We've developed a mini game with which you can learn to read intuitively and individually, as you would play a game. We trust that a learning mini game has to be so awesome that it would encourage you to play it even though you might not be interested in its pedagogical content. We've done our best to implement this idea in our mini game. In doing so, we incorporate psycho-pedagogical foundations and concepts from the Montessori way, improve upon such programs as phonetic charts and show the syllables as they are actually spoken and not as they would be if spoken separately. Our emphasis is not on learning to recite the alphabet or spelling out words; on the contrary, instead of learning the ABC off by heart, the pupil learns which sounds actually occur in each word. As such, double vowels, for instance, are never separated. Kids in higher grade may also profit from the mini game in case of different reading and/or spelling difficulties such as dyslexia. You can also use the mini game to learn some basics of foreign languages, regardless of your age: thanks to the audio clips, you can explore learn the pronunciation of the individual phonemes in each word. You hence not only learn a translation of the word, but have a native speaker present you the meaning and the spelling of each word. Of course, this is not meant to be a complete linguistic pedagogical environment: the words offered are all nouns and there are as of yet no adjectives, verbs and no punctuation. Learning the language is based here on a challenging speaking vocabulary trainer. This apk however can be used as an interactive introduction to the acquisition of speaking skills for individual words. The mini game does not include a dictionary and is not split up in individual lessons, but rather in levels with different themes such as pirates, animals or cars.
